No. Health insurance companies are for - profit companies. The extent to which they care about the uninsured is how those people will benefit their bottom line if private health insurance coverage ever becomes mandated as is auto insurance. They care about government sponsored health plans inasmuch as how much of a threat they would be to their bottom line if switching over to such a plan would be more lucrative to their existing customer base
The short answer is NO. A more convoluted answer is: No, and it is not their job to care. It is their job to make money for shareholders. One way to do that is to provide a good product and good service in an ethical way. Beyond that they owe us nothing. Also, "industries" of any kind do not have the ability to care about consumers. The health insurance industry is a machine, not a feeling human
No the insurance industry does not care about people. They are just looking out for their profits and thinking if they show some compliance now then maybe it will sway peoples view and limit the changes made by law. It would be short lived if the law doesn't enforce the changes. I believe the number of uninsured in this country is probably higher than stated. There are many companies that no longer provide health insurance coverage or have it available at all because they can not get an affordable rate. Then there are the companies that have it available but the cost is so high that not all employees can afford to enroll. My husband's job does not provide health insurance or have it available. My daughter in - law just enrolled at her job but the cost is over $400 bi - weekly and then she has a $1000 deductable. I do not buy it that people would choose not to have health insurance coverage if they can afford it. We always kept auto insurance coverage before it became law. Of course it was more affordable before the laws changed in favor of the insurance companies, allowing them to legally gouge people, not based on their own recorded but based on the record of all the irresponsible drivers. If they are going to make something mandatory then they should make it non - profit in my opinion
This figure of 40 million uninsured is to say the least misleading. The census numbers used to arrive at this figure actual 47 million used by the liberal media constantly includes millions of illegal aliens, people who have CHOSEN NOT TO PURCHASE insurance mostly young adults who believe they do not need it and people between jobs who have temporarily loose coverage. If there is going to be a discussion about the uninsured can we at least use legitimate figures. The Federal Government has proven that it is whole incapable of running anything efficiently, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid are for all intensive purposes bankrupt. There is no example that would suggest the Federal Government is even remotely capable of manageing health care
